Participants attending the 2014 World Investment Forum in Geneva from 13 to 16 October 2014 may require visas to enter and remain in Switzerland for the duration of the Forum. Please click here to check whether or not you need a visa.
Entry visas for Switzerland are issued primarily by Swiss diplomatic representations abroad. Please click here to check which Swiss embassy is competent for the applicant’s place of residence and to obtain further information on visa procedures.
Applicants are advised to contact the Swiss representation in their country of residence and visit the websites listed above to determine where they should submit their applications. Please note the time for processing visa requests may vary and depends greatly on local circumstances.
Participants requiring an entry visa must submit their request to the competent authorities at least 20 days before their expected travel date. In general, the competent authority is the Swiss embassy or consulate in their country of residence. In addition, Switzerland has agreements with certain Schengen states that allow them to issue visas on its behalf where Switzerland is not represented. We advise participants to check with the competent representation if such agreements apply for their case.
Please note that Switzerland applies the European Schengen regulations concerning the issuance of visas. Since October 2011 the Schengen member states have introduced the Visa Information System (VIS) which is used to store biometric data (10 fingerprints and facial image) of the Schengen visa applicant. All Swiss embassies and consulates are gradually being connected to the VIS system. It is therefore necessary for the visa applicant to make an appointment with the Swiss embassy/consulate in his/her country of residence and present him/herself in person to submit and register his/her biometric data. This biometric data remains valid in the VIS system for a period of 5 years.
More general information about visas can be found by consulting the website of the Federal Office of Migration.
