The next UNCTAD World Investment Forum takes place in Nairobi, Kenya from July 17-21, 2016. The Forum is the largest global platform for action on investment for sustainable development. Our showcase event brings together global leaders from the public and private sectors to explore what the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals mean for business and how the public and private sectors can make  progress on their implementation.The World Investment Forum 2016 will allow you to:

  • Learn how you can be part of a global “New Deal”

There are no fees for this event, however places are limited and registration is mandatory.

Registration for the Forum is an integral part of the UNCTAD 14 Conference registration. To attend the World Investment Forum you will need to officially register for UNCTAD 14.

Please carefully read the information below regarding your registration category:

Member States

In accordance with rule 13 of the rules of procedure of the Conference, the credentials of representatives of States members of UNCTAD are to be issued either by the Head of State or Government or by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country concerned. Those credentials, together with the names of alternate representatives and advisers, should be communicated to the Secretary-General of UNCTAD.

Please note that all members of an official delegation must be included in the letter of credentials. Other delegation members – such as the entourage – should be listed in a separate note verbale sent through your permanent mission in Geneva.

All members of official delegations and members of their entourage, such as protocol officers, spouses, advisers, staff, drivers and security personnel etc., are required to register online for the Conference.

As part of this registration process, a letter of credentials for the official delegation and a note verbale for the entourage must be uploaded on to the registration system.

Intergovernmental Organizations

Representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency and intergovernmental organizations that have been invited to attend, as per rule 80 of the rules of procedure of the Conference, should provide a letter of credentials duly signed by the head of their organization, and those credentials, together with the names of alternate representatives and advisers, should be communicated to the Secretary-General of UNCTAD.

Please note that all members of the official delegation must be included in the letter of credentials. Other delegation members – such as the entourage – should be listed in a separate note verbale sent to the secretariat.

All members of official delegations and members of their entourage are required to register online for the Conference.

Academia

Academics, university professors, researchers and faculty members who have either been invited to participate in or wish to attend UNCTAD 14, and/or associated forums and other events, such as the World Investment Forum and the Global Commodities Forum, are requested to register online for the Conference.

A copy of the individual invitation issued by UNCTAD, or an endorsement letter from the Head of Department or Vice-Chancellor of their institution confirming their status and clearly explaining their academic interest, should be uploaded during the online registration process.

Final confirmation of participation will be subject to approval by the UNCTAD secretariat.

Private Sector

Representatives from private sector businesses who have either been invited to or wish to attend UNCTAD 14, and/or associated forums and other events, such as the World Investment Forum and the Global Commodities Forum, are requested to register online for the Conference.

Youth Forum

UNCTAD Youth Forum will offer the opportunity to young people to join UNCTAD 14 discussions. This forum will take place from 19 to 21 July and is open to those that are interested in helping to shape the future they want and that are students or young professionals aged between 18 and 30, from all continents.

Youth representatives who have been formally selected and invited to participate in UNCTAD 14 and the Youth Forum are requested to register online for the Conference.

Personal letters of invitation issued by UNCTAD should be uploaded during the online registration process.

Final confirmation of participation will be subject to approval by the UNCTAD secretariat.

Press and Media

Media accreditation for UNCTAD14 is strictly reserved for members of the press – print, photo, radio, TV, film, news agencies, and online media who represent a bona fide media organization (Full guidelines available here)

How to request media accreditation

Media representatives are requested to send:

A letter of assignment (PDF format) on official letterhead of a media organization signed by the Publisher or Editor-in-chief indicating the name and duration of assignment of the journalist(s) who will cover the Conference.

AND

A copy of the filled out accreditation form (English and French).
Send a scanned copies of both (letter + form) to unctadpress@unctad.org

Incomplete requests

Incomplete requests will not be processed. Confirmation of your accreditation will be sent to the email provided in the form.

Double accreditation

No double accreditation is allowed (e.g. both as a journalist and as a delegate).

How to pick up your media accreditation

Once you receive an e-mail confirming that your request for accreditation has been approved, you can obtain your media press pass on site [details to be confirmed].

When picking up your media press pass, you must present:

  1. Valid passport from a State recognized by the United Nations General Assembly.
  2. Second ID which could be a press card, work ID, driver’s license or other form of photo ID.

Civil Society

A Civil Society Forum will be organized as part of the official programme of UNCTAD 14.

The Forum will start before and run in parallel to the Conference. It will provide an opportunity for participating civil society organizations (CSOs) to discuss and formulate their views on the issues related to the Conference agenda. The Civil Society Declaration will be delivered to the opening plenary of UNCTAD 14.

The Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee for UNCTAD 14 will hold two hearings with civil society in Geneva prior to the Conference to provide CSOs the opportunity to contribute to the preparatory process and comment on the pre-conference negotiating text.

CSOs wishing to take part in the preparatory process, the Civil Society Forum and the Conference roundtables and debates are required to follow the steps below.

The deadline to apply for accreditation is 30 April 2016, and
please note that incomplete or late applications will not be processed.

Step 1: Apply for accreditation to UNCTAD 14

CSOs that have observer status with UNCTAD are requested to send an official letter (on official letterhead and signed by the Head of the organization) expressing their interest to contribute to UNCTAD 14 and designating the representatives who will attend the Conference and its preparatory hearings.

CSOs that were previously accredited to UNCTAD XIII in Doha, Qatar (2012) are required to apply for accreditation to UNCTAD 14 by completing the Application Form.

All other CSOs are required to complete the Application Form and send it with a copy of the required supporting documentation. Organizations should provide clear information about their activities and how they relate to UNCTAD’s areas of work.

Requests for accreditation will be submitted to UNCTAD member States for consideration and approval. Decisions regarding accreditation to UNCTAD 14 and its preparatory meetings will be communicated directly to the organizations concerned.

Step 2: Designate Representatives

Once a CSO is accredited, the Head of the organization is requested to designate their representatives who will attend the Conference and preparatory meetings. The official letter (on official letterhead and signed by the Head of the organization) should be sent by mail, e-mail or fax to UNCTAD’s Civil Society Outreach Unit.

Step 3: Register online for the Conference

Designated representatives are requested to register online. A copy of the individual invitation issued by UNCTAD should be uploaded during the online registration process. Final confirmation of participation will be subject to approval by the UNCTAD secretariat.

Once registration is confirmed, designated representatives may participate in the Preparatory Hearings, the Forum and the public meetings and debates at UNCTAD 14. They may also access non-restricted general documentation and use the facilities provided for CSOs at the Conference centre.
Please Note:

Only representatives who have been designated by the Head of their organization and have registered online for UNCTAD 14 will be able to participate.

All participants are responsible for obtaining their entry visa for Kenya and for financing their travel and accommodation in Nairobi for the duration of their stay.

The number of representatives allowed per organization might be limited by the capacity of available meeting space.
